Wow, it has been awhile since I have written.  We cancelled the cable and got a roku which is only like $15.99 a month for what we have (netflix & hulu).  We love it and we are paying about $100 less than we were paying for cable. :)  We met nearly all of our goals for 2011.  We do have a small amount to pay on credit card and a little on a business loan  (total of around $4000) from my dad but that we will take care of this year.  Our overall payments due each month are lower than they ever have been our whole married life.  Right now, not including food and gas out bills with mortgage are $1750 and when the cards and loan are paid it will be around $1550 I think.  And in the summer it is cheaper just because the electric is cheaper. But, I am very proud of this because we have really had to work to get here.  This year my goal is to just keep moving forward and saving and just creating a debt free life for our children to grow up in.  I think the best gift we can give our children is to grow up to be debt free and teach them how to live debt free.  Growing up with no debt will make life so much easier for them especially as they get older and start their own lives.  This is not something many children are taught growing up but this is a gift we will give our children.

getting rid of debt one dollar at a time

I am writing because I feel like we are being given a new beginning.  In the past few months we have downsized.  We have gotten rid of the home phone and reduced our bill from $108 to $29 (internet).  We reduced our cell phones from a company plan to just my husband and i and are saving around $200 from that.  We sold my van and bought two used suburbans and then got rid of his truck which has saved us $408 plus about $20 a month in insurance.  We got our mortgage reduced and it is $1000 less and at 2%.  It will cap off at 5%.  It has been a long hard road for us but things are looking really good.  Too top that off my husband got a really good subcontracting job that will last indefinitely which gives me great security because since the problems with the economy began his business has been so uncertain. I just feel so thankful.

Well, I have not been here in a few weeks.  We had a huge unexpected event.  We were 24 weeks pregnant and we lost the baby.  We have three healthy children so this was a huge loss.  But that is for another blog.

We are back to trying to be free from debt.  Brian has had many leads in his decking business in the past 2 weeks.  And we had a great idea to trademark something and sell it so we will keep you posted on that.  Brian is also thinking of helping his friend with leather for supplemental income. :)  Everything is hopeful on the financial front.  Of course, some loss of income from our unexpected loss but we are moving forward and very hopeful.  I really think with a trademark we could use our product to pay off our mortgage, well in like 5 years.  :)  We will see. :)

Selling,selling, selling

My first way that I have decided to eliminate all debt is by selling all the stuff we do not need.  So far this month we have made about $420 which makes me very happy.  Of course, this month has been more of playing catch up after Christmas and after two slow months of work with Brian's business, but hopefully next month I can continue to have a residual income and we can start to save money. :)  Then we can pay off all debt except the house. It is hard work.  But, I want us to keep on going until we achieve our goal.  I'm very excited and very motivated for this.  It is a great thing to give to our children and teach our children. :)

My first entry

This is my first entry on my journey to becoming debt free.  I am starting this blog mainly for myself to record my journey.  Currently, the economy is still not so good.  I am a homeschooling mom of three and I have one more on the way.  My husband has his own deck building company which can be extremely slow in the winter and when the economy slows. As a homeschooling mom I think one of the best things I can do is teach our children to become debt free.  So now are journey will begin for the road to freedom. :)
